What is a Vape Tank?

A tank, often located at the top of the Vape Mod, is the part of the vape that holds the vaping liquid and the vape coil, which is used to heat the vape juice and turn it into an inhalable vapour. The majority of tanks are classed as a 510 vape tank, as they feature a 510 connector, shaped like a small cylindrical gold pin, which both attaches your tank to the vape, as well as connecting the tank to the battery.
The 510 connection pin makes the vape tank incredibly versatile, as it allows you to mix and match your vape tanks with a number of different mods, for instance you could use DL Tanks, such as the T-Air Sub-ohm Smok Vape Tank, with any number of Vape Mods or high powered vape kits such as Advanced Vape Kits.

Vape Tanks feature a few main key components; every Vape Tank, regardless of whether it’s made by Geek Vape, Vaporesso or SMOK Vape, will include a drip tip, top cap, glass or plastic cylinder, a base and coil.

The “drip tip” is the part of the vape at the very top that you put to your mouth to inhale the vapour, and can come in a variety of sizes and colours.

The drip tip is attached to the top cap, the section near the top of the tank that you usually unscrew or push open in order to fill your vape tank with vape liquid

The plastic or glass cylinder is the middle part of the tank that actually contains the vape juice and is held between the top cap and the base.

The base is the section at the bottom of the vape tank and is usually where you’ll find the adjustable airflow.

The coil sits at the centre of the vape tank and is often either screwed into the base of the tank or pushes into the centre - as well as heating your vape juice, the coil, when inserted correctly, also acts as a stopper which prevents your e-liquid from escaping the tank. Although if you’re concerned about your tank leaking, it may be best to opt for a leak proof vape tank in order to avoid mess and potential mishaps caused by a leaking tank.

What are Common Vape Tank Features?

As we mentioned previously, most Vape Tanks will share common key features, but there are also a number of additional features included in some tank vapes which allow you to tailor your experience so that you can create the best vape tank possible. Here’s a few common features that can improve your experience:

Adjustable Airflow

Adjustable airflow is a fantastic feature that allows you to take control of your tank by adjusting the current of air going into and coming out of your tank; you can adjust the air flow to create a loose inhale or tight inhale, which is especially useful if you’re trying to produce either a DTL or Mouth to Lung tank inhale.

Top Fill

A top fill vape tank is a type of tank vape that you can refill with e-liquid from the top of the tank, which makes refilling your tank much quicker and easier than some of the alternatives such as a bottom fill vape tank. Bottom fill vape tanks have to be removed from the device in order to refill them, which often takes longer and is generally messier.

Enhance Your Vaping Experience

  •  Customizable options for a personalized vape.
  • High-quality materials for durability.
  • Stylish designs to suit your taste.
  • Easy maintenance for hassle-free vaping.

What is the difference between MTL Tanks and Sub Ohm Tanks?

There are a number of key differences between a MTL Vape Tank (Mouth to Lung) and a  (DTL/Direct to Lung) - but there are more types of tanks than just these two. Below we’ll discuss the 4 main types of tank and their main differences.

Disposable Tanks

Disposable Tanks, such as the Innokin Go S or Innokin Go Max, are fixed-coil tanks; this means that you can’t replace the coil on these tanks. When a Disposable Tank begins to taste burned you simply dispose of it and start using another; this reduces the amount of maintenance required and makes these tanks really easy to use.

DTL Tanks

DTL Vape Tanks, also known as Direct to Lung Tanks or sub ohm tanks, are a type of tank known for producing powerful hits and dense clouds. DL Tanks are usually part of a large tank vape kit and are best suited to lower nicotine strengths found in thicker e-liquids such as 70% VG Shortfill Vape Liquids as the amount of power that they’re capable of producing can heat e-juices much quicker.

  • Examples: Uwell Valyrian Vape Tank, Lost Vape Centaurus Tank, Freemax Fireluke 4

MTL Tanks

An MTL Vape Tank, also known as a Mouth to Lung Tank, is a style of tank designed to replicate the mouthfeel of smoking, where you first take the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it into your lungs. MTL Tanks tend to be smaller than other styles of tank, produce less vapour and use less power and vape liquid. The lower power output makes these types of tanks ideal for 50% PG or high Vape Juices such as Nic Salts, as their thinner consistency requires less power to vapourise.

  • Examples: Lost Vape UB Lite Tank, Aspire Nautilus 3 Tank

RDA and RTA Tanks

An RDA Tank (Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser) or RTA Vape Tank (Rebuildable Tank Atomiser) is a type of tank best suited to experienced Vapers that are either looking to experiment with creating their own coils to tailor their tanks to the max or flavour chasers looking for intense flavour.

RDA and RTA tanks don’t use pre-made coils, instead the Vaper fits their own coil into the RDA or RTA and then wicks them using specially treated cotton that’s made for vaping.

  • Examples: Vaperz Cloud Dreadnought RTA, Nightmare Mini RDA by Suicide Mods
  • Always use a regulated device to check the ohms of your RDA/RTA coil before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does a Vape Tank work?

A: Vape Tanks work by heating e-liquid and turning it into an inhalable vapour; the heating element, usually called a coil contains cotton and either wire or mesh that is heated which in turn causes the liquid to become a vapour which you then inhale.
Unless you’re using a disposable vape tank, the coil will need to be replaced when it begins to deteriorate; you’ll know when the coil needs replacing as you’ll experience either a reduction in vapour production or a significant change in the flavour or colour of your e-liquid.

The most common sign of a deteriorated coil though is a burning taste; if you experience this it’s best to change your coil immediately or as soon as you’re able, as the coil will perform poorly and it makes the vaping experience substantially less enjoyable.

Q: What is the best Tank for a beginner?

A: Choosing the best tank vape is a matter of personal preference, as it depends on your needs and individual taste - however, we can advise on which type might best suit you and your unique style.

The Nautilus Vape Tank (an Aspire Vape Tank) is the best MTL vape tank for beginners such as those who have recently switched from smoking to vaping. The Nautilus Tank is a simple, easy to use top fill tank that has multiple options for coils, allowing you to personalise your vape just the way you like it.

If you prefer a Direct to Lung inhale we’d recommend the Geek Vape Z Tank, often confused with the Geek Vape Zeus Tank, or simply the Zeus Vape Tank, as well as the Geek Vape Z Max Tank. Either Geek Vape Tank would pair perfectly with one of our advanced kits and is suitable for beginners who’ve recently started Sub Ohm Vaping.

The Geek Vape Z series tanks are also considered the best vape tank for flavor thanks to their superior mesh coils and can be converted into big vape tanks as you can purchase the Zeus Bubble Glass separately which turns these tanks into a 5ml Vape Tank.
